There are several ways in which dry paint can be removed from shoes, and we have collected some here so you can choose the best one and go ahead with it.
Method 1
Among the several methods used to remove dry paint from shoes, this is one effective one! And below are the steps.
- Getting rid of any excess paint: Since the paint is dry, you can use a knife or a spoon to scrape off as much paint as you can. This step will ease sponging and blotting the stain.
- Blotting with a wet cloth: Damping the area can make it easier to flush out the stain and makes the fabric easy to work with. Make sure to use lots of water and keep the fabric wet because it helps to keep the fabric flexible.
- Use a detergent mixture: Mix detergent in a bowl or bucket and apply it using a wet sponge, making sure to rub the stain while applying pressure.
- Rinsing with water: Now run the shoe under the faucet with cold water to get rid of the detergent. You can repeat the above steps until the stain is removed or unnoticeable.
- Using nail polish remover: If the stain still remains, apply nail polish remover and dab the area until the stain disappears.
Method 2
This method is similar but makes use of different types of items to get rid of a dry paint stain.
- Getting rid of the excess: Using a knife or a spoon, get rid of as much paint as you can. Hold the fabric and gently scoop off the paint. It will make sponging and blotting easier.
- Wet cloth wiping: Damp the area with water as it makes it easier to flush out the stain. Make sure to keep the area as wet as possible as it increases the flexibility of the cloth and makes it easier to remove the stain.
- Dry cloth over the stain: Use a few fresh paper towels to put the shoe on it. Make sure to put the stain face down against the cloth.
- Using turpentine on the inside of the shoe behind the stain: Using a sponge, rub turpentine on the inside of the shoe. Make sure to apply pressure to the inside of the stain. The paint will eventually come off on the towel that you have placed outside. Continue doing this till the stain is removed.
- Rubbing the stain with laundry detergent and dry cloth: Apply a detergent on a towel or a rag and rub it on the affected area to remove any leftovers of the dry paint.
- Soaking in hot water: Submerge the shoes in warm water and leave it for at least 6 hours
- Rinsing with cold water: Finally, rinse the shoe with cold water, and the stain should be completely gone by then.
Method 3
Here is also an alternative way to remove dry paint from shoes!
- Brushing off excess paint: Best would make use of a course toothbrush to flake of the excess paint. The small chunks of paint can be removed with a fingernail. This removes the smaller part of the stain exposing the greater part.
- Pouring paint thinner: Pour a stream of thinner over the stain directly and make sure to keep a bowl to catch the extra thinner. Make sure to make use of the appropriate thinner according to the paint that you are dealing with.
- Scraping softened paint: After the use of the thinner, scrape off the extra paint, which is now soft. In this case, the paint should rub off easily now. A lighter layer of paint may still be present through most of it would have been removed.
- The dry cloth on the outside of the shoe: Place the towel on a flat surface and place the stained area facing down set against it.
- Turpentine: Using a sponge, apply turpentine on it, and rub on the inside of the shoe. Once in effect, the paint will begin to appear on the cloth as it gets removed from the shoe. Ensure to use rubber gloves and continue replacing the dry cloth on the outside because it will get wet from the turpentine.
- Rubbing the stain with laundry detergent and dry cloth: Now rub the outside of the shoe with a dry cloth with some detergent on it. This helps to remove any leftovers of the paint that may be present on the fabric.
- Soaking in hot water for the night: Submerge the shoes completely and let them in the bucket for at least 6 hours. Keep rubbing the stain occasionally, to remove the loose paint as it softens with the use of water.
- Rinsing with cold water: Finally, you now place the shoe in cold water for a bit. By the time it is dried, the stain would be invisible so you can sit back and relax!
